Sign our Open Letter calling on Sinai to reach a fair contract in a timely manner
Postdocs and senior researchers (Scientists and Instructors) at Mount Sinai are circulating an Open Letter urging Sinai to reach fair contracts with our unions without undue delay. Although senior researchers have now been bargaining for six months, Sinai has agreed to only three tentative agreements with senior researchers, out of twenty proposed articles, despite the fact that most of these rights are standard for unionize researchers and are already provided in the current postdoc contract. With the current Postdocs Union contract expiring on June 30, 2026, postdocs will begin bargaining on April 29th. With the majority of the issues shared by Postdocs and Senior Researchers, it is imperative that the contract negotiations build upon the current postdoc contract without sacrificing hard-won protections. Therefore, it is more important than ever that we show the urgency of making progress on researcher working conditions at Sinai.
As a result, researchers are circulating an Open Letter addressed to the Mount Sinai administration, urging them to engage in fair contract negotiations with postdocs and senior researchers:
-
Uphold the rights previously agreed to with unionized postdocs at Sinai
-
Extend these rights to Sinai’s senior researchers across career stages
-
Address threats to Sinai’s competitiveness and academia as a whole by agreeing to improvements with both of our unions that strengthen stability, equity, inclusion, and rights for international workers
The more of us who add our names to the open letter, the more strongly we can convey this message.
