As your ROCS-UAW bargaining committee, we urge everyone to ratify the initial bargaining goals so that we have as much power as possible to improve our working conditions during negotiations for our first contract.

The vote to ratify these goals will run from Tuesday, June 10 at 9am to Monday, June 16 at 5pm. Eligible voters are all Assistant Scientists, Associate Scientists, Senior Scientists, and Instructors currently employed by the institute who have filled out a bargaining survey or an authorization card. The vote is now open and only takes a minute of your time.

To develop these goals we used feedback from bargaining surveys filled out by a majority of senior researchers, discussions during town halls, and hundreds of conversations since we started forming our union. The goals are purposely ambitious and broad, based on a conceptual agenda that includes all the issues raised throughout our campaign. In the coming weeks, the bargaining committee will prepare more specific proposals that address each of these goals in detail. We are very excited to have these goals as a foundation to build on, and your continued feedback to guide us, as we develop concrete contract language on all of these topics in the lead-up to our negotiations with the Sinai administration.

At our town hall on Monday, the bargaining committee introduced themselves and summarized the contents of these goals. We hope to improve the experience of senior researchers in ways that help us excel in our research, while also making Sinai more accessible, inclusive, and competitive by securing essential workplace protections and benefits, such as: salaries that keep pace with the rising cost of living in NYC, longer and more affordable access to Sinai housing, more rights and support for international workers, more cost-effective health benefits, paid parental leave, subsidized child care, longer appointments, enforceable protections against harassment and bullying and more. With the continued participation and support from a strong majority of senior researchers, we strive towards these goals.

We remain committed to being responsive to the priorities and needs of all Sinai senior researchers, so if you have any additional feedback or suggestions about how to achieve the listed goals please include it in the comment box that is on the ballot. You can also reach the bargaining committee directly at info@sinaipostdocunion.org.
