RSVP for our informational Town Hall next Tuesday (4/1) at 12pm!

We are thrilled to share some exciting news regarding our efforts to form our union, Researchers Organizing Committee at Sinai-UAW. After notifying Sinai last month that 80% of senior researchers had signed up in support of forming our union, we have successfully reached an agreement with the administration on the terms for our union election. We are now poised to take a significant step forward: voting “yes” for our union.

Voting will take place on Wednesday, April 9th and Thursday, April 10th, in person at the Patricia and Robert Levinson Student Center in the Annenberg Building, at the following times:

  • Wednesday, April 9th, 10am-2pm and 3pm-7pm

  • Thursday, April 10th, 10am-2pm and 3pm-7pm

Eligible voters are Instructors who predominantly perform research, Senior Scientists, Assistant Scientists, Associate Scientists. Positions that are not eligible include Instructors who predominantly perform teaching services or who perform clinical services. Both Instructors and Scientists will vote at the same time and location in their own respective unit elections. If you have questions regarding your eligibility to vote, please don’t hesitate to email info@sinairesearchersunion.org and an organizer will reach out.

As senior researchers at Sinai, we now have a historic opportunity. When a majority votes “yes” for our union, Mount Sinai will have a legal obligation to negotiate with us as equals over our pay, benefits, and workplace rights. The more of us who participate and vote “yes”, the more effectively our elected Bargaining Committees will be able to negotiate for improvements with the Sinai administration.

Upcoming Town Hall

In preparation for our elections, we are hosting an informational town hall session on Tuesday, April 1 at 12pm. Make sure to RSVP here.

We encourage all senior researchers to attend to get answers to any questions you may have regarding our elections, hear from unionized researchers at other institutions, and engage in discussions with fellow Sinai scientists and instructors.

Fighting Back Against Federal Funding Cuts

As we prepare to vote “yes” and form our union, senior researchers at Sinai are continuing to work with other UAW academic workers across NYC and the country to fight back against the federal government’s attacks on higher education and international scholars. Here are several upcoming opportunities to engage and help defend our careers and science at Mount Sinai:

  • Wednesday, March 26 at 3 PM – Know Your Rights Webinar: Join a webinar with an immigration attorney to learn more about how international scholars and allies can exercise and expand our legal rights. RSVP here.

  • Tuesday, April 8 at 5 PM at Bryant Park – Nationwide Day of Action: Join us for Kill the Cuts, a National Day of Action on April 8th to fight for the restoration of critical federal funding for research, healthcare, and education. RSVP here.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or thoughts,
